White Hot Summer Collection: The Story

Hey guys!!
I am so super excited to announce my first ever collection. The White Hot Summer Collection. Side note: Because Nadia collection was focused on bold color, I wore bold color shoes with my looks to show my support 🙂

I want to give you guys the story, so you know why this is so special and important for both Nadia and myself.

Nadia and I both met online (like most meetings happen these days lol). I think it was Instagram.  Because Im in Atlanta so much during one of our interactions we said next time I’m there let’s grab lunch. Sounds GREAT! We both love to eat lol.

We met up on my next trip and went fabric shopping because DUH lol and we went to lunch. During our lunch we both sparked something creative in each other.

I can NOT draw. I can NOT sketch but I had recently saw someone post some sketch books and they said they were a beginner and that if they could do it then anyone could. I would love to learn so I made a note of it.

During lunch with Nadia, she showed me her sketches of some of her work and when I tell you it was beyond amazing to me!? BEYOND amazing. I truly wanted to learn. I told her about the books that I saw posted and I do believe I ordered them at the lunch table lol. Since that time I HAVE been practicing daily but that is not a talent that comes easily to me so I am still working on it lol.

We talked about so much during that lunch conversation almost 10 weeks ago. We both wanted to do more with our craft. We wanted to be more creative and push ourselves beyond where we currently were.

Nadia makes AMAZING handbags. I am not just saying that because I know she will read this. Her work is truly outstanding. Looking at her work in person had me in complete awe. The craftsmanship was just superb.

Nadia had somethings that she wanted to achieve and she encouraged me to set some goals as well. She wanted to make some new purse designs and work on some new leather techniques but as always when working for yourself, current work and life just gets in the way and you just don’t have time or you don’t make time. I know that is how it works for me.

I wanted to practice draping and pattern making. I took some classes a couple of years ago and I really want to apply more of it to my work. That was my goal.

Nadia took it a step further. Let’s do a small collection she said lol. It’ll be fun she said lol. Not only was it fun it was STRESSFUL  at times but I enjoyed every single minute of it.

What was even more special about this is that we BOTH encouraged each other along the way. We made sure we were staying on task and that we were meeting daily and weekly goals.

This was PRICELESS. There were days when I didn’t want to do a thing and a little text from Nadia would give me that push that I needed.

I’ve never been friends with another creative woman who has pushed me to go beyond what I’m doing. To just TRY it. I have never had a desire to have my “own line” of clothing. I’ve never had a desire to make a “collection”. Having a simple conversation over lunch sparked something in me that I never knew I was capable of.

I have to thank Nadia for waking up creativity that I didn’t even know was laying dormant. Not only do I think I did an AMAZING job draping every single one of my looks AND making the patterns for them, I know without God and Nadia by my side it wouldn’t have happened.

I can’t not thank Tony and my sister in love Zanete. They have been so helpful through this process. It just means so much to me.

I hope you all enjoy what we have created. It wasn’t really a “TRUE” collaboration, it was more two creative souls supporting each other as we tried something new. This isn’t the end, it’s ONLY the beginning. Great things are ALREADY in the works!
