Wearing White in the Fall/Winter

Hey guys! Can you believe how quickly this week is going by? I can’t believe it’s WEDNESDAY and Christmas is NEXT Friday. Say WHAT!?!?

I don’t know how it got started that you shouldn’t wear white after labor day but you guys already know I don’t follow the “rules”. I don’t think wearing white in the fall/winter is taboo at all. I wear what I want lol. I needed a white dress to wear to a funeral but all I had was “summer white dresses.” They were linen, or something WAY too thin to wear on a seriously cold day. I think it was 40-50 degrees the day of the funeral so of course I made one. I was inspired by the dress Blake Lively is wearing in this picture:

I THINK this may be a cape dress, but I love the way the sleeves looked. That was my inspiration.

Let me tell you what makes a difference when wearing white in the colder months…THE FABRIC. This is a heavy stretch denim. No way would I wear a linen dress or even an eyelet dress, you will look crazy lol but wearing white denim, a heavy white ponte knit or even white leather/faux leather is totally acceptable.

It was COLD so I decided on this wool cape that I made last year. I STILL love this thing and it kept me plenty warm at the funeral.

The dress is made from McCall’s 6886. I just modified the sleeves. Since my fabric had a good amount of stretch I was able to still cut my same size. The cape is McCall’s 6209.

Hope you have a great day today!

Adrienne
